We just returned from the Giles Family reunion weekend. It was fun; it was memorable! Here are some highlights:
Running in the morning on the beach with Dad, Kristy and Sara… and yoga…ahhhhh… Dad Giles led Sara and I through his regular routine while facing the surf on the beach. That was where yoga was meant to be done, I think.
Falling in love with my first Hemingway: The Old Man and the Sea…so appropriately read AT the ocean.
The day before we arrived at the family reunion… We discoved “
It was surreal and beautiful and all ours for the afternoon. Without our bathing suits we explored the rivelet, played in the sand, snapped dozens of pictures (including a family portrait using the timer feature of the camera as it balanced precariously on a makeshift tripod created from driftwood),
collected beautiful rocks and treasures and buried Oscar in the sand.
And without so much as a port-o-potty, the ocean had to do for the kids… just something for you to think about the next time to dip your toes in the water or splash in the surf.
It was an hour or two we knew would be a family “remember when…” moment for the rest of our lives. And then we DID have to hike the mile back up the mountain to our car…each of us carrying a child on our back or shoulders.
They all needed turns, but even this exercise I thoroughly enjoyed.
This was my view most of the way up the trail.

I just washed Taylor's cell phone (Warm Cycle) and dried it (High Heat). And there I was being so proud of myself for getting all of the laundry done from the kamping trip. I feel like such an arss. It just needed to be shared.
Suzie,
You brought to light one of my greatest pet peeves: the "double K syndrome." Why people feel the need to replace the letter "C" with the letter "K" when creating alliterative phrases is beyond me! I believe that my issues with the "double K syndrome" began as small child growing up in Maryland. In one of the local shopping centers there was a laundromat with a hideously ugly neon sign alerting you that this was the "Korner Koin Laundry." Whenever we happened to drive by this lovely locale I always shielded my eyes from the horrid K's. To this day I can't stand the double K's. This is one of the reasons I refuse to frequent that famous doughnut shop that everyone likes to visit when the "HOT" sign is on. . .
Oh my goodness! Suzie, I think you just found one of my favorite beaches!!!
YEARS ago, our family had a family reunion and went to it. It was off the highway and about a mile's trek in. Just like you described, I LOVED the right end of the beach with the water trickling down and the trees along the ridge that went all the way around the cove.
Were there holes in the rocks, like small caves, just pass the "waterfall"? I remember the rock being different colors...
Do you by chance remember where on 101 that was? Was there any marker of any sort?
My mom's family used to go there all the time when they were little. I've only been once, on that family reunion when I was 16. But no one can tell me exactly where it is to so I can take my family there.
I think I remember my mom's family calling it White Sands, but they might have made up the name just for themselves.
Thank you for sharing! I hope it's the same one!!!
Your vacations are amazing. When you come to Utah, what can we possibly do to top private beaches and yoga? Well, I've got the yoga covered...how about a ballet class? and some lunch? It's all I've got...
As I said, the best moments on a vacation are the unplanned serendipitous ones. I love that you have those memories now and that you shared them with us.
PS: Is the cell phone okay? I hate it when that happens! Also, did you ever find Agate Beach? If not, it sounds like you more than made up for it with Giles Beach.
Loved your post. I find your life (and children) very beautiful. I must admit I havent read ALL of your post, But I look forward to reading more of yours. I have to run to work, but you will be added to the blogroll. Thank you for extending the invite to your life and heart with this blog. *takes a seat*-BA

Welcome home!
First of all...it is somehow unthinkable that we were in the SAME STATE. Sure there were five hours between us...but STILL!
I also find it hilarious that Paige has the EXACT shirt that Waverly was wearing in those pictures...don't ask me why I find it hilarious...but still. I do.
Glad you are having such a fun summer!
The pictures were hilarious. I love your family so, so, so much! You realize your blogs of family vacations have me dreaming of vacationing in Oregon with MY family. Little cottage on the beach, yoga, running, watching my boys pee into the surf...
